About the role:
The Direct Support Worker is responsible to the Primary Direct Support on shift for guidance and direction, and reports to the Program Manager. The Direct Support Worker provides support and assistance to individuals that promotes their independence and is person centered.

As an awake direct support overnight, you are there to make a difference in helping make a home environment for the individuals supported, promoting independence, providing care and support during the morning routines as well as ensuring the needs of the individuals are met.

During the shift, you would be responsible for basic meal preparations, cleaning and sanitizing, medication administration as well as assisting with hygiene care.

The awake direct support has a fundamental role in ensuring a great start to the supported individuals day

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assist and support individuals to maintain an optimal level of independence and quality of life
  • Responsible to assist and support individuals with their general health, safety, and well-being within the home/program
  • Provide support and assistance to individuals with activities of daily living, personal hygiene, life skills, and recreation and leisure activities
  • Implement all individual plans using the person-centered principles of individual choice, respect, and dignity
  • Work as a team member in assisting with the medical, financial, and behavioural/emotional needs of the clients
  • Provide input to the team with regards to individuals' support plans and assist clients to achieve goals/outcomes as indicated in their annual support plan
  • Communicate effectively to other team members via the communication book, daily log books, and team meetings
  • Complete all documentation as required (i.e. medication/treatment documentation, incident reports, daily financial balances...)

Wage:
$23.84 to 27.17 Hourly


Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary degree/diploma in the social services field, such as a DSW/PSW or enrolled in a related college or university program is preferred.
    OR
    Related experience working with adults with intellectual/developmental disabilities.
  • CPR, Emergency First Aid, NVCI
  • G license required
  • Experience supporting individuals with Dual Diagnosis, Mental Health & Addictions would be an asset

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to advocate for others
  • Strong problem-solving skills and takes initiative in making improvements
  • Ability to contribute to a safe environment for co-workers and clients.
  • Can communicates respectfully, openly and honestly.
  • Demonstrated experience working with adults with an intellectual/developmental disability is preferable.
